The Influence of Dance in Culture- A Celebration of 100 years

With upcoming performances of Le Sacre du Printemps by The Joffrey Ballet and Chicago Repertory Ballet

The last 100 years celebrates an important centennial in dance. From classical ballet to the modern age fusions of hip-hop and contemporary dance styles, it is exciting and remarkable see how dance has evolved over this centennial. This evolution is necessary for the survival of art, just as humankind has evolved for centuries as means of existence. In this centennial, we are reminded of the important pioneers in dance over this period of time including Isadora Duncan, whose birthday was recently celebrated on May 27th along with many dancers and choreographers who elevated dance to a new level: Alvin Ailey, Mark Morris, Merce Cunningham, Martha Graham, George Balanchine, and other important contributors.
